This issue contains an homage to a lesser-known Siegel and Shuster creation, Funnyman. It's not entirely clear quite how DC would've gotten permission to use the character. Though not a successful invention, the one thing that can be said about Funnyman was that he was unambiguously the property of Siegel and Shuster. Perhaps the law was satisfied by the fact that he was referred to not as Funnyman, but as "funny man, Larry Davis".
