Features the "second two years" of the syndicated newspaper strip, Gasoline Alley. Why would this planned multi-volume series begin with the the second two years instead of the first? Because, in many ways, these are the first two years.
When Alley began in 1919, it was merely a "gag" strip. In 1921, though, the strip, to use a modern phrase, "rebooted". Main character, Walt Wallet, found a baby, Skeezix, on his doorstep, and the strip immediately transformed into a multi-layered, multi-character continuity fest. It was for years the only newspaper strip whose characters aged, matured, had lives, and ultimately died.
This volume, then, chronicles the first two years of that continuity.
It also has an 80-page introduction by Jeet Heer of Canada's National Post. This introduction seeks to add historical context to the strips contained in the volume, and to give readers an introduction to their author, Frank King.
