1000 years ago, Geomancer Tashi Khatun created a Tulpa, a duplicate of himself in order to train the next Geomancer. Unfortunately, the tulpa came out wrong and was a reflection of Khatan's vanity instead of his compassion. In the present day, the current Geomancer Clay McHenry is led to a deserted cemetary where he encounters Gilad, who lets Clay know that he has one more test to undergo.
