The short story "How I Draw Usagi Yojimbo" was originally published in Amazing Heroes (1981) #187 in 8 pages. The story was revised and expanded to 12 pages for Usagi Yojimbo (1987) HC vol. 05. The expanded version was later reprinted in Usagi Yojimbo: The Special Edition (2010) and this artbook.

The painted short story "The Battle of Adachigahara Plain" was originally published in Usagi Yojimbo (1987) HC vol. 04. A black and white version of the story, co-inked by Sergio Aragon�s, and titled "Return to Adachi Plain" was published in Usagi Yojimbo (1996) #10, and reprinted in "Volume 11: Seasons" of the Dark Horse HC/TPBs.
