A Kung bushman friend shows Korak the havoc wrought by the Heikum bushmen, who lead a pack of wild dogs and kill wild game wantonly. They possess some kind of stun-stick that can fell a bull. After chasing them off by setting the grasses on fire, Korak tracks them to their lair, an island in a lake. Swimming out to the island he gets a strong shock from some kind of underwater animal. His thrashing about gets him captured, and he notices they all have protective rubber gear. He sees one sliding a live eel down a tube to use as a wand, and makes a break for the canoes. Barely able to race the others to shore, he takes to the trees as the dogs chase him. He finds a Arab camel train and buys huge blocks of salt from them with gold, and gets tantor to carry it all to the lake. He dumps the whole supply into the lake, killing the eels by salting the water. Then he gets the tribe of T'kou his friend to come and make terms of surrender with the Heikum.
