2012-05-28 00:49:56 mikebo Synopsis James T. Kirk has a credibility problem. Despite having saved the Federation on countless times, no one will believe that he's been in contact with a disturbing alien intelligence over the course of his long career. Worse, they just think he's crazy when he says that "presence" is out to threaten the galaxy.

Maybe part of the problem is that his career has all but drawn to a close, and Starfleet would just like to see the man that's often caused them as many problems as given them badly needed assistance simply . . . retire. Or maybe it's because the evidence--mainly stories from his past--is just so damned flimsy.

In any case, Kirk is outside the fold on this one, and he has to turn to unlikely corners of the Alpha Quadrant for help understanding his storied past.

Unfortunately for Kirk's "credibility gap", the only people who seem to believe him are marginal players in the Federation--namely, the 20th century whale expert, Dr. Gillian Taylor and Lt. Jamie Finney, daughter of a Starfleet officer who was, well, court martialed for acting on a psychotic impulse. If that weren't bad enough, his other allies are his old Romulan lover, T'Cel, and the legendary Klingon commander, Kor.
