"Give me a Red" - praxis22
The last four pages of this issue are incredible, a completely visceral experience, I always get goosebumps reading it:
Three, no, it's Four blocks away
Bullets cut through flesh and bone
A woman holds her baby close and hears him gurgle
A lung collapses
Three blocks away now, a man chokes out half a name and dies
From the gun, A Rocket
A wino cried to God
"Get your Camera."
Another rocket, headed for
"Moving up, boy, got company"
"Matt Am I dying?"
"No. No Honey"
"Everything important in you is safe."
"Safe. I kept it it safe for you Matt."
"I thought I'd have to be a lot more patient than this, Kingpin"
"I thought I'd have to wait for weeks"
"For you to get sloppy, like you did with my house"
"enemy fire" "a chopper"
The pilot screams and alert, the gunner goes to his death with a curse.
Two Lovers sleep quietly.
The screaming starts
He passes close.
"Give me a RED"
The image which accompanies this page, at this point in the story is like an adrenaline rush. I had to read the issue again about 5 more times before I was able to reconcile myself to the fact I would have to wait a month to find out what happened next.
"Give the man his due. He's wearing the tights"
"And I - I have shown him...that a man without hope is a man without fear"
