Publisher: Marvel Comics UK (Marvel)
Publication Date: February 1973 - December 1985
Country: United Kingdom
Language: English
Notes:
Probably the longest running UK Marvel comic and probably the best selling. Due to this, other UK Marvel weeklies who's sales were dropping were usually eventually merged with this Spider-Man title.
Originally called 'Spider-Man Comics Weekly' it underwent LOTS of name changes over the years.
Some of these are:
From Issue 158 it became 'Super Spider-Man With The Super-Heroes' and also changed orientation to become a landscape format comic. This was so two pages of US artwork could be fitted onto one UK sized (like magazine sized) page.
From issue 199, 'Super Spider-Man and the Titans',
231 'Super Spider-Man and Captain Britain' which featured original Captain Britain strips after this comic had merged with Captain Britain Weekly.
311 'Spider-Man Comic',
334 'Spectacular Spider-man Weekly',
376 'Spider-Man And Hulk Weekly',
450 'Super Spider-Man TV Comic',
553 'Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends'
Issue 631 finally gave us the black costume strips.. but with issue 634 is became 'The Spider-Man Comic' and was aimed at younger children! It also included 'Fraggle Rock' strips!! (Personally I remember being devastated!)
With issue 652 it became even worse by becoming 'Spidey Comic' before finally dying a death with issue 666!
Three months later the 'Spider-Man and Zoids' comic appeared with new numbering.
Issues 607 to 610 featured original UK Spider-Man strips based in London fighting 'Assassin-8'. Strips by Mike Collins, Barry Kitson and Mark Farmer.
Number of issues cataloged: 24
