Suicide Squad   (1987)
Search for 'Suicide Squad' on eBay

Publisher: DC Comics

Publication Date: May 1987 - March 2010

Country: United States

Language: English

Notes:
Perhaps the most famous and best-reviewed version of the Suicide Squad--a name used to describe several different groups in DC history--this John Ostrander creation was a kind of riff on The Dirty Dozen. The basic concept was that it was a covert ops team of super villains, pressed into service-on-parole for the US Government. They were typically sent on extremely high-risk missions where the chance of survival was low. Code-named, "Task Force X", the team's government liason was Amanda Waller and its field leader was generally Rick Flagg, Jr. Flagg's father, Rick Flagg, Sr., had been a part of the original Suicide Squad, which never attained its own title, and only appeared in two back-of-the-issue stories, one in 1959 and the other in 1986. During the "Blackest Night" crossover, this series was temporarily revived with a single new issue in 2010.
