Pilote was a weekly French cartoon magazine published from 1959 to 1989. It showcased many French and Belgian comic creators. The magazine introduced major series such as Astérix le Gaulois, Blueberry, Achille Talon, and Valérian et Laureline. Contributors included René Goscinny, Jean-Michel Charlier, Pierre Christin, Jacques Lob, Albert Uderzo, Jean (Moebius) Giraud, Enki Bilal, Jean-Claude Mézières, Jacques Tardi, Philippe Druillet, Marcel Gotlib, and international talents such as Hugo Pratt, Frank Bellamy & Robert Crumb.
In June of 1974, Pilote changed to a monthly format and became Pilote Mensuel (1974). Late in its run, from 1986 to 1988, Pilote Mensuel merged with another magazine, Charlie Mensuel (1969), and they were renamed Pilote et Charlie. The title returned to simply Pilote for the last year of its publication in September of 1988.
