Star Wars: A New Hope - The Special Edition   (1997)
Search for 'Star Wars: A New Hope - The Special Edition' on eBay

Publisher: Dark Horse Comics

Publication Date: January 1997 - April 1997

Country: United States

Language: English

Unlike the title Classic Star Wars: A New Hope, a reprint of Marvel's version contemporaneous with the film's original release, this is the completely Dark Horse spin on Episode IV created in 1996-7. It is, strictly speaking, an adaptation of the Special Edition of A New Hope, and thus is frequently referred to (even by Dark Horse) as Star Wars: A New Hope--Special Edition. It's not catalogued, in this database, as the "Special Edition", because, as of 2005, LucasFilm (and LucasBooks, co-publisher of the work) no longer releases this cut of the film as the "special edition". This is most properly thought of, merely, as the adaptation of the final cut of the film.

As of 2005, Dark Horse has created original adaptations of only Episodes I-IV. They have re-released repackaged versions of Marvel's original take on Episodes V and VI (published rather confusingly under a "Special Edition" label), and they've done "alternative universe" versions of Episodes V and VI, but they've not yet done their own adaptation of those movies.
