Outlanders was the first English translated manga by Johji Manabe to appear on American shores. It ran for 33 monthly issues, one special, one #0, one Epilogue, and one short story in the compilation "A Decade of Dark Horse" #3. The original Japanese version of Outlanders was serialized in Comicomi Magazine, published by Hakusensha K.K.
Every issue of the regular series was 40 pages long, with no ads - quite a feat for a company like Dark Horse which was just starting up in the late '80s.
Outlanders was also collected into a series of 8 TPB volumes, a few of which include some Manabe stories that were not printed in the pages of the regular comics.
Dana Lewis and Toren Smith were responsible for translating the title. Tom Orzechowski created the american Outlanders logo. Ken Macklin created the star field that appears on the back cover of each issue.
