Oz   (1994)
Search for 'Oz' on eBay

Publisher: Caliber Comics

Publication Date: 1994 - 1997

Country: United States

Language: English

Notes:
Created by the team of Ralph Griffith (plot); Stuart Kerr (Script); and Bill Bryan (art), "founded on and continuing the famous Oz stories by L. Frank Baum."

The premise of the series was that the Nome King and Mombi, as an uneasy alliance, had conquered Oz by brainwashing six of Oz's most beloved citizens: Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Dorothy Gale, Betsy Bobbin, and Trot, and the latter three aged to curvaceous young adults. Betsy and Trot were made captains of Mombi's Female Fighters, Dorothy ruling as the Nome King's queen until Ozma, languishing in the dungeon, would give in and make his rule legitimate through marriage. Scarecrow was made king of the Munchkins, Lion, king of the Quadlings; and Tin Man's rule of the Winkies became tyrannical and machine-oriented.

Comicbook dealer Kevin Ross, his dog Max, his girlfriend Mary Warren, and best friend, engineering student Peter Stevens, are brought to Oz when they open a magic book found in a bequest of old comic books. There, they join up with a rebel band led by Wogglebug, Amber Ombi, Jack Pumpkinhead, Hungry Tiger, and Jinjur.

Title continuity: Oz (1994) continues to Dark Oz (1997).
