It was a co-published effort by Viz and Eclipse Comics, and was released in twenty-eight bi-weekly installments. The original Viz run of Mai was derided by some readers who were familiar with the original Japanese serialization. To avoid potential problems with what was perceived as the first major introduction to Manga that the US would have, some scenes of minor nudity were edited out for the English edition. Viz later restored these scenes when they released the Mai the Psychic Girl Perfect Collection, which collected all 28 issues of Mai into three ad-free trade paperback volumes.
