The Funnies (1936) #64 continues to New Funnies (1942) #65
If a publication like this existed today, it would be very similar to an expanded version of the Sunday color comics supplements in most English-language newspapers. It was a hodge-podge of short stories, most of which rarely went over a page or two. It seems to have gone through a couple of phases of content. From inception through issue 32, it stressed humor material, very much in keeping with the title. Even in this first part of the run, though, more serious adventure material was growing in importance, until in issue 33, it became predominantly "heroic" in nature. At issue 64, it suddenly switched to funny animal stories, then changed its name and relaunched with issue 65 under the title The New Funnies. In the later part of its run, it became known as Walter Lantz New Funnies, still retaining the numbering from this title.
