A 28th volume was solicited, but remains unpublished due to First's closing. It was to be Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped, adapted by Mike Vosburg. It was finally published by Papercutz two decades later as volume 16 of Classics Illustrated (2007).
Further volumes were intended including adaptations of Around the World in Eighty Days, The Last of the Mohicans, The War of the Worlds, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Red Badge of Courage, Candide (by Joe Staton), Dracula, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (by Mike Ploog), Heart of Darkness (by Bill Sienkiewicz), Arabian Nights (by Charles Vess), The Three Musketeers (by Matt Wagner), and Paradise Lost. Dark Horse issued the adaptations of The Last of the Mohicans by Jack Jackson, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Gary Gianni that were originally intended for the line. Gianni's 20,000 Leagues adaptation has been republished in larger formats by several publishers in more recent years as well.
